Picturesque countryside, quiet lanes and beautiful scenery makes the Grange Over Sands area an ideal base for exploring. If cycling is your thing this is the place, from short local rides, (ideal for families), to longer more challenging rides into the Lake District National Park can be easily be reached from here.

For mountain bikers wanting  off-road adventure, there are a number of bridleways and byways in the area. By far the best mountain biking can be found in and around Grizedale Forest where the North Face Trail is a purpose built single track to challenge the fittest of biker. There are also numerous challenging bridleways and tracks to the East and West of Coniston.

Here at Lothlorien, we offer cyclists free secure storage during your stay.

For walkers, the Lakeland fells are within easy reach or if you prefer more gentle country walks the whole area is available through marked paths and bridleways.

Newspapers and provisions are available from the local post office and general store which is situated in nearby Allithwaite.

There is a pub serving food within 1 mile of the property.

The South Lakes is a five-star cycling destination. From road cycling to mountain biking the area has it all. If you fancy riding your bike over rolling countryside or on quiet rural roads and bridleway tracks the area gives you the opportunity to explore this area of outstanding natural beauty.

Grizedale Forest is a wonderful safe place for biking. The North Face single track route gives experienced mountain bikers an adrenaline rush while the forest roads and bridleways have a range off-road routes for different abilities.

During the summer months many buses around the Lake District are geared up to carry bikes. The 800 Bike Bus service has been especially converted to carry up to 12 bikes on on-board cycle racks. So hopping on the bus is now an easy way to get to the start of your ride.

Also, this summer, Windermere Lake Cruises is operating a daily Bike Boat shuttle service across the lake. It can carry up to 12 bikes and passengers across the Lake and back, offering a great way to access cycling and walking on the western shore of the Lake.

The newly re-surfaced west shore bridleway offers less challenging, family friendly cycling and walking, and takes in the impressive, mock-gothic Wray Castle.

Lothlorien is ideally placed for the Bay Cycle Way, which runs for 81 miles around some of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the country, from Walney Island right around the bay to Glasson Dock in Lancashire.
