Holehird Gardens near Windermere is the home of the Lakeland Horticultural Society.
The gardens and house are set in 17 acres overlooking the lake and with stunning views to the Langdale pikes.
Furthermore, Beatrix Potter spent summer holidays with her parents in the house (now a nursing home).
In 1969, the Lakeland Horticultural Society was formed and began to rescue this once derelict garden.
As a consequence, the extensive gardens are maintained by volunteers and staff from the society.
Today these immaculate gardens consist of a wide variety of plants particularly those suited to the local climate here in the lakes.
The gardens are open to the public at all times and are seeing an increasing number of visitors each year.
