Crosby Garrett Roman Helmet

This week a rare Roman helmet named after the village near Penrith where it was found has gone on display at the Tullie House Museum in Carlisle. The helmet was discovered by metal detector enthusiasts and was sold for £2.2m at auction in 2010 to a private bidder, who has allowed it to go on show.

The Crosby Garrett Roman cavalry helmet has attracted over 1700 visitors already since last Friday.
